Rural merchandising store overcomes remote access issue with Veritoken

Riverina Co-Operative is a large independent rural merchandising store in regional New South Wales that had a need for a network solution that provides simple, secure, portable and fast remote access in regional and remote locations.

Veritoken is Veritech's solution for a simple, portable and secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) client device. Designed to complement Endian Firewall Appliances, or any other OpenVPN Server, the Veritoken is a USB Token device which provides an all-in-one VPN Client Solution.

Riverina Co-operative services the Riverina region as a member based rural co-operative, they are also a CRT outlet and Thrifty link Hardware outlet, and attend Henty Fields days each year. Attendance, and continual success, at Henty has led to the need for a network solution that provides simple, secure, portable and fast remote access to Riverina Cooperative’s workplace network. Most importantly this solution had to be effective in remote and rural areas.

Riverina Co-Operative has been attending Henty Field Days in South West NSW for some years now. This has always been an arduous project with all transactions handled manually; processing sales, taking orders, issuing receipts and reconciliations. Once back in the office all transactions had to be processed a second time onto the workplace network. This was a large amount of double handling and proved cumbersome and time consuming.

In July 2009 Riverina Cooperative had an Endian Mini Firewall installed to provide their in-house access and security needs. The Endian offers progressive, forward-looking security features in an all-in-one appliance, providing security and Internet access, a stateful firewall, email security, web security, gateway antivirus and anti-spam, content filtering,  intrusion detection, virtual private network (VPN) and hotspot (wireless security).

Riverina Cooperative IT Manager Brad Klimpsche is amazed at the features and consequent results that the Endian provides.

‘After relying on a very basic internet and security system for many years we were hesitant to go with a more complex and demanding system. Veritech allowed us to make this transition without any of these projected difficulties; the set up was quick and easy, the system is easy for everyone to use and if we have any troubleshooting Veritech provide fantastic 24/7 support. Also, by integrating the system into our existing environment there were no interruptions to the workplace and no complex alterations to current operating systems; it was quite seamless and extremely effective’ commented Mr Klimpsche.

Furthermore, Riverina Cooperative was one of the first Endian customers to purchase and use Veritech’s locally developed Veritoken. With a personal notebook or other computer and internet access (usually 3G wireless) the Veritoken allows Riverina Cooperative to attend Henty field days and have full secure access to all systems back in their office – even in this remote location.

The Veritoken was purchased to overcome the issues with manual processing at field days and Riverina Cooperative IT Manager is confident that it has achieved this plus more.

‘The Veritoken allows us access to our network whilst we are off site and as a result we no longer have to double handle transactions and are saving a great deal of time and resources.  We are extremely happy with our Endian and Veritoken as it not only allows us to achieve our goals at the field days and expos but also provides another simple remote sales option for our agronomists who are always on the road’

‘Our staff is relieved at the workload that the Veritoken has reduced and because it is easy to use and appears to users as if they are in the office there has been no training requirements or complications with who can and cannot use the system. The other great thing is the speed of the connection; we have a speedy connection back to our workplace and there is the lowest possible latency’

‘We are very happy with the end result of the Endian and Veritoken and have not looked back since July 2009’ commented Mr Klimpsche.

Businesses interested in implementing this solution are encouraged to sample the Endian UTM system by using the online demonstration at www.veritechcorp.com.au and can purchase the product today through their preferred IT consultant or reseller.
